TSS XP has two components to it MTAS.exe and TSSXP.exe
The MTAS.exe without it running and able to communicate through the firewall, TSSXP will not run
The mtas program does lots of things two important things it does it controls updates from the server to any client workstations, and it also controls updates from the workstations back to the server, it also controls when the backup occurs either daily and weekly as well as having a utility to restructure your TSS data, almost like a defrag tool for your TSS data.
If on your server or main computer you don’t see in the system tray or the icons down near the time on your windows start bar this green icon running, then TSS will not open on any of your computers
If you go to the server and this is not in the system tray you want to go and search for mtas.exe and open it, then once it is running like in the above screenshot you can run TSS at least on your server computer.
If you get this screenshot below the next question is are you on the main (server) computer or a workstation computer?
If you are on a workstation computer you should go to the server and open the cmd.exe
And type ipconfig to find the ip address of the server computer
In the command prompt you want to find the line with the ipv4 address
Then on the workstation if you hold down the shift key until you see the select server window
If you right click and choose
edit server you can
Enter that ipv4 address info from the server
And as long as none of the shared settings to allow the computers to communicate between the server and workstations have not changed TSS will open and you can return to working using TSS XP
